How much a household spends on subscriptions

By SubscriptionGaugePublished Updated

This catalog does not include a national average, a survey, or a typical household bill. Those figures are not here. The number this site can stand behind is the one you add up from published plans in the calculator.

The button “Load a sample household” fills seven listed plans. It is an example stack, not a claim about what people pay. The monthly figure is a run rate. The New York Times All Access price is billed every four weeks, so the calculator counts thirteen bills and spreads them across twelve months. The other six plans in the sample are monthly prices.

Amazon PrimePrime$14.99/mo · $139/yr$14.99$179.88
iCloud+200 GB$2.99/mo$2.99$35.88
The New York TimesAll Access$25 every 4 weeks$27.08$325

At these published prices the sample totals $103.02 a month as a run rate and $1,236.28 over a year. Tax is not included. A promo, a student rate, or a price your account still has from before a hike is not in that total.

Replace any line in the calculator, or clear the sample and tick only what you pay. A price you type yourself is labeled your entry. It is not a verified price, and it stays on that device unless you choose to sync.

The lowest published plan in a category is a different list. Cheapest streaming services ranks those plans. It is not a household total.
